We're glad to announce the official release of HTML Executable 2025.0!
This is a major update packed with new features, performance boosts, and important fixes, many of which are based on your valuable feedback. Thank you for your continued support!

Key Highlights in Version 2025.0

Major New Features:

✨ Integrated DOCX Viewer: This is the big one! You can now embed and display Microsoft Word .docx files natively in your applications without requiring MS Word.
  • Content remains secure and is never unpacked to the hard disk.
  • Supports security profiles just like the PDF viewer (disable copy, printing, find, etc.).
🚀 Zstandard Compression: We've replaced the Brotli algorithm with Zstd. This means you'll get faster compilation and decompression speeds, with comparable file sizes.
🛡️ Expanded Code Signing Support: You can now sign your compiled executables using modern cheap cloud-based certificates like Azure Trusted Signing. We also added support for Microsoft SignTool for specific certificates.
📚 HTML Help TOC Import: You can now import existing .HHC (Table of Contents) files to quickly create a TOC for your publications, which is very helpful when converting from CHM or other help authoring tools.

Notable Improvements & Fixes:
  • Upgraded the internal PDF viewer engine to the latest version.
  • Optimized the compilation process to avoid re-creating WebView2Loader.dll if it already exists.
  • Fixed an important issue where online activation status was not saved correctly, especially with WebView2 and OneDrive synchronization.
  • Resolved a bug where external links (like heexternal://) could fail with newer WebView2 runtimes.
  • Addressed a problem where some smaller PDF files would fail to compile.
  • Fixed an issue where the Web Update process could stall.
  • ...and many other improvements and stability fixes!
How to Get the Update

If your maintenance plan is active, this update is free for you. You can download the latest version directly from our website:

You can check your maintenance status on your account page: My Account Page. If your maintenance has expired, you can renew it there to get this new version and all future updates.

For a complete and detailed list of every change, please see the full changelog: View Full Changelog

If you're new here, HTML Executable helps you turn your HTML (even websites), DOCX, PDFs, and other documents into professional Windows apps and ebooks. It's all about giving you the tools to protect your work from being copied and to sell it securely with licenses, trials, and activation keys.

We look forward to your feedback on this new version. Please don't hesitate to post any questions or report any issues you may find here.

Edit June 19: HTML Executable 2025.0.1 available, fixed multi-threading problems with some CPU. Improved compilation speed even more!

Tried to use 2025.0 on existing project that worked perfectly in 2024.2. No go.

Notice the -1B file size?

1749733849823.webp

It is clear that the files exist and are not -1B.

As stated, the project was compiled in 2024.2 and has/had no issues are all.

Choose Clear then Update to refresh the list.
All that did is remove the -1B files and break the app.

BTW: your system is not sending out notifications. I have retested my profile email to ensure it works, and Google says everything passed:

Forget, just found a setting for this (I think) on new board.

SPF: PASS with IP 20.13.235.xxx
DKIM: 'PASS' with domain uxxxxx.net
DMARC: 'PASS'

Yes, the new forum does not always send out notifications automatically and unfortunately. You have to subscribe manually.

The -1B files mean that they cannot be found or Windows does not let HTML Executable access them. Verify their permissions and/or antivirus/security settings.

I did not have this issue with 2024.2. This issue appeared the moment I upgraded and affects all projects. I did not change anything expect upgrade to 2025.0

The files are in the same exact folder they were in when compiled with 2024.2.

I need to just downgrade to 2024.2, that will soleve the issue.

Thank you.

Sure, you can always download previous versions from the "My Account" page at https://www.htmlexe.com/account

However, I think this may not be related to HTMLEXE itself since it looks like a permission problem. There is an easy way to find out: in the File Manager in HTML Executable, click Add Files and select them manually. They should appear in the Open dialog box and you can add them manually.

Hi @gdgsupport ,

While I haven't tested everything thoroughly yet, all my previous projects from 2024 compiled successfully..

I noticed all my updated apps ran fine and started much, much faster now! .. awesome! (y)

thanks!
Thank you very much for your feedback! Great that it works for you too :D.
And yes, the new compression method used in HTML Executable ZStandard is really faster.

Thank you. Had already tried that without success. If you say there is not issue and others are not having an issue, it is clearly my end. Beats me, all I did was upgrade and the issue appeared.

EDIT: something I just noticed is did not get the message on laptop that another version exist and must be uninstalled. The installer simply installed. On my desktop I got the message to uninstall. Reinstalled 2025 and Works on Desktop.

So, does it work for you finally? Or still getting these strange not found file issues?

"Reinstalled 2025 and Works on Desktop." Should have said "Installed on Desktop and Works" without issues.

Never got it to work on laptop, still get the -1B errors.

When installing on laptop, never got the message to uninstall existing 2024.2 and installer simply installed over 2024.2. Desktop install warned me to uninstalled 2024.2 first.

What do you mean? You have some traces left by the uninstaller?
There must be something left behind from uninstaller. When I try reinstall I do not have to enter my activation code. Looks like there is also folders left in the folder
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GDG Software\HTML Executable 2025

Just trying to do a complete reinstall by wiping all.

Yes, I see.
If subfolders already exist when you install, they are not referenced for deletion.
So you can safely remove all subfolders in
C:\Program Files (x86)\GDG Software\HTML Executable 2025
when you uninstall.
Then, your personal settings remain. It's explained in the readme here:
Note: HTML Executable stores its preferences in a subfolder named "GDG Software\HTML Executable" which is located in the Windows Application Data folder.
On Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7: C:\Users\[User Name]\appdata\roaming\GDG Software\HTML Executable
You can safely remove the files inside that folder if you do not want to keep your preferences for HTML Executable.

Finally got it working! The only differences between successful installation on desktop and failure on laptop was laptop did not ask me to uninstall 20204 first, it just proceeded.

Totally removed all traces from laptop, reinstalled and it is working.

Only odd thing is it shows 2024 shortcut and 2025 folder in start menu:

1750357375224.webp

I have a error fatal compilation "error interno 32003"
What's going on?
The project worked without any problems in the previous version.

Good news. Indeed, this 2024 shortcut can be removed safely once you have HTML Executable 2025 installed.
