Open and Save Dialog Boxes Crash Secure Workbook

Yes, that would be great! Please let me know if you need anything else from me.
Also, another detail regarding the three computers I regularly use is the two computers that crash when trying to open or save with a secured workbook are Windows 11 Pro and the one computer that will open and save is Windows 11 Home. I don't know if that makes a difference, I just want to get you as much information as I can to assist you in solving this issue.

Yes, Windows 11 Pro has some security software than Windows 11 Home, so there may be a conflict there. Maybe with some restrictions or security features you enabled on your two Windows 11 Pro computers?

Sure, here are some features in Windows 11 Pro:
1. Check Windows Security Features
On both a Windows 11 Pro and a Windows 11 Home machine:
  • Go to Windows Security > App & Browser Control > Exploit Protection Settings.
  • Compare all settings, especially around Data Execution Prevention, Control Flow Guard, and other exploit mitigations.
  • If you find stricter settings on the Pro machine, try temporarily relaxing them to match the Home machine.
2. Review Controlled Folder Access
  • Go to Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Ransomware Protection.
  • Check if "Controlled folder access" is turned on in Pro but off in Home. Try toggling it off temporarily.
3. Check Application Control (AppLocker/Exploit Guard)
  • On Windows 11 Pro, search for "AppLocker" or "Exploit Guard" (not available on Home).
  • See if there are any rules that might block unknown DLLs or executable code. Temporarily relax these if possible.
Hope this will give us some hints about that unexpected crash.

All of the settings you listed above were the same between the Windows 11 Pro and Home on all of my computers. These settings aren't the issue because the Windows 11 Pro computers continue to crash when a secured workbook tries to open or save a file.

Is there any news / update on this topic ? the last message is from jun 24. I had the same problem in April on company controlled computer which unfortunately was not available for analysis and I do now have a client who has exactly the same problem. When saving the "explorer window" freezes and than crashes. On this company computer the compiled xlspad executable first ran without any issues. Then it did not anymore from 1 day to another. I suspected a windows update (office 365) problem but could not revert back due being a company computer. That computer ran also Norton Anti-virus, but as it worked before it seems strange that Norton could be the root cause. I cannot trace back which windows update it was but if it is that then it must be an update which was rolled out in April of this year.

Regarding the issue you described, we have not received any additional reports of similar behavior since your last message, and our internal tests with XLS Padlock under the latest Windows updates have not reproduced the problem. We regularly monitor Windows updates, and no recent changes have been identified that would impact XLS Padlock in this way.

Rather than a Windows or Office update, we suspect the issue might be related to specific Group Policy settings enforced on the company-controlled computer. These policies can affect file operations or application behavior in subtle ways. Additionally, while Norton Anti-Virus may not be the direct cause—especially since the software initially ran correctly—it could potentially interfere if its configuration changed or if a new security rule was applied.

We recommend checking the Group Policy settings and any changes applied by the IT department, especially those introduced around April. If possible, testing the same executable on a non-restricted environment or another machine without these company policies could help isolate the root cause.

Thanks.
