VBA code works but the .EXE does not

I used XLS Padlock trial edition Version 2022.1 to convert a working .xlsm to .exe. The EXEcutable version aborts on opening a workbook, while the original .xlsm has no problem there. The behavior is repeatable and consistent.
Is this a known symptom? If so is it only within the trial edition, or does the full version have the same problem ?
And if so what is the solution or at least a workaround ?
